Lob

for the love of bocce.

Lob, short for "love of bocce," brings its first U.S. location to the heart of Denver, a city known for its vibrant energy, love of games, and appreciation for great food, drinks, and company.

While Lob’s motto — “Drinks, Dining, and Deboccery” — sets the tone for a lively experience, our design focus was on breathing new life into a long-vacant space. We carefully balanced playfulness with practicality, ensuring safety, durability, and a seamless fusion of dining, socializing, and spirited competition.

This project also came with a unique challenge: collaborating with a client based in Toronto to bring their vision to life from afar. As an international client, they needed a design firm that not only understood Denver’s spirit but could also act as their eyes and ears on the ground. Navigating local codes, sourcing materials, and making critical decisions with their goals in mind required both expertise and creativity. The result is a space that not only meets the highest standards of function and safety but also captures the vibrant, welcoming essence of Denver.

At the heart of Lob’s experience is the game of bocce itself, and we designed the space to elevate the sport in a fresh, immersive way. Unlike traditional courts, Lob features 10 custom-designed bocce tracks, each with its own set of challenges like rolling hills, sharp corners, and playful obstacles that transform the game into a dynamic, interactive experience. Much like mini-golf, guests can play through a full round with scorecards in hand or simply grab a drink and enjoy the action from the bar. The layout encourages social engagement, whether players are deep in the game or spectators are cheering them on from the sidelines.

To enhance the experience, we designed the space to feel like an industrial garden alleyway, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Lush greenery softens the raw, urban aesthetic, while vintage elements infuse nostalgia and authenticity. Black-and-white, semi-pixelated photographs of classic bocce players were transformed into large-scale environmental graphics, adding a sense of history and playfulness. Finishing touches like vintage trophies and retro sports awards celebrate the spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie. Every detail was carefully curated to create a space where guests feel transported, engaged, and part of something special.

The result? A destination that’s as dynamic as it is welcoming. Every guest, whether a bocce pro or a first-time player, can gather, play, and create lasting memories.
