bringing the outside, in.
Mile High Flood District wanted a new home to celebrate 50 years of serving Denver and surrounding areas. They had a decision to make: they could lease office space or purchase a building of their very own. Once the building purchase was made, Kestrel Design Group was tasked with modernizing this 30-year-old, two-story structure to meet the program requirements and hit the project budget and goals. The building had existing amenities that included open stairwells, large training and meeting spaces, and a large central atrium space for entertaining. As an organization, Mile High Flood District is dedicated to the protecting of people, property and the environment through stream preservation and flood management, so it was a natural decision that the color story throughout their space lean into greens, blues and purples - the natural and soothing colors of water. The base palette of the design was inspired by organic patterns and neutral textures that can be found elsewhere in the natural environment. Colorful graphics and murals that harken to higher chroma colors in nature stand out, boldly splashed across the walls. What better way to bring the outside, in?
